According to the FAS USDA estimate, Ukraine may harvest more than 2 million additional tons of corn in the current season, which still remain in the fields. This forecast is based on actual yields in 16 regions where harvesting was still ongoing as of mid-January, reports ProAgro Group.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, as of January 15, 92% of the harvested area had been collected, with total production reaching 28.9 million tons of grain. The remaining areas, according to analysts, could increase total output by more than 2 million tons.
Harvest delays were caused by heavy rains, which prevented machinery from entering certain fields. In addition, farmers prioritized oilseed crops, postponing corn harvesting to later dates, FAS reported.
“According to industry data, some batches of corn had moisture levels of 32-35%, significantly above the normal 20-22%. This led to export delays, as producers had to dry the grain before shipping it to ports. Some farmers reported leaving corn in the fields to reduce initial moisture levels, as temperatures and humidity dropped sharply,” the report says.
As previously reported, as of January 8, 2026, the largest amount of unharvested corn remained in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where only 74% of the corn area had been harvested by that date.
