Ukraine is gradually restoring fertilizer imports to pre-war levels. Over the first 11 months of 2025, the country imported about 3 million tonnes of fertilizers, indicating an active market recovery.
Analysts note that the real surge in imports is taking place in 2025. According to their forecasts, nitrogen fertilizer imports are expected to reach around 1.9 million tonnes by the end of the year, ProAgro Group reports.
“Even at these levels, Ukraine will enter spring 2026 with a significant fertilizer deficit,” experts emphasize, noting that the total demand for the current year exceeds 5 million tonnes.
Imports of phosphate and nitrogen-phosphate fertilizers amounted to 410,000 tonnes. While this is a considerable volume, it still falls short of the necessary 700–800,000 tonnes.
Experts also point out that fertilizer prices in Ukraine are gradually rising, and the issue of transporting ammonium nitrate by sea remains unresolved and requires attention.
As reported earlier, the Ukrainian fertilizer market may face a shortage at the beginning of 2026.
